In over sixteen years, we have touched the lives of thousands of children (and adults), with programs that introduce them to a greater understanding of their place on the Earth and an appreciation of the inherent interdependence of life. Our programs build self-esteem while fostering leadership skills. When they come to our organic farm they are required to turn off cell phones and embrace the sounds of nature and their own inner lives. They experience the magic of pulling a carrot out of the ground, a pea pod off a vine, the intense fragrance of lavender and the sweet taste of chocolate mint…not in a candy bar, but in the leaves of the plant. We emphasize this inherent mystery, that in the flaring forth of creation, ALL that was to be, was present in that very moment…the elements that would one day form the stars, the galaxies, the trees, the rocks, animals and all humanity was there. And that reality means that we are all made of the same stuff as the stars…we are all made of star dust…a magical and wondrous reality that impacts on how we treat ourselves, each other and all that is around us. Our hope is that our visitors leave the farm with a reverence for soil, earthworms, bees, themselves and each other.
Our staff has presented programs at Cinema Arts Centre, Huntington, Molloy College, Hofstra University, SUNY Old Westbury, East Islip Middle School, The Small Farm Summit and San Pedro Elderhostel in Florida among other educational institutions, schools and workshops on Long Island and beyond. We have forged partnerships with local businesses and are currently growing food to be donated to The INN for distribution to the guests at their soup kitchens.
